Basic Car Care Tips |
Maintaining a car is a very important step that every car owner must follow. In this article, you can find some of the important basic car care tips to uplift the life of your car, to improve the safety and to enhance the performance of your car.

1. Tyres.
The main functions of a car's tyres include supporting the vehicle load, absorbing road shocks, transmitting traction and braking forces to the road surface, and changing and maintaining the direction of travel. To ensure these functions are being adequately met, there are some important things to inspect on each of your car's tires on a regular basis. This includes the tread depth of your tyres, the air pressure, wear, and any damage or signs of deterioration.
When refilling tyres with air, make sure to fill the air pressure according to the manufactures recommendation. Conduct this checking on every other week. Less air and more air reduce the lift of the tyre. Also, check your car's service manual to know how frequently you have to do a wheel alignment, wheel balancing, and wheel rotation.
Always take some time to inspect and learn about the tyres on your car. Thoroughly inspect your tires at least once a month and ensure the right amount of air pressure is always present. Take care of your tires, and they will take care of you.

2. Engine Oil.
A car's engine made up of many moving parts. These parts need to be properly lubricated to avoid damage. Oil in the engine provides this vital function. Also, Engine components create heat and will wear down the engine dramatically without proper oil lubrication. Moreover, poor engine lubrication can lead to increased fuel consumption, so make sure there is enough clean oil in the engine. So, engine oil plays an important role in the life of a car.
Over time, the engine oil breaks down and becomes contaminated with dust, dirt, and debris from the engine as well as the environment. Engine oil should be replaced on every 10,000kms or 1 year of time (whichever comes first). You can check the condition and the level of your car’s engine oil using the dipstick.

3. Brakes & Drive belt.
The brake system of on a car is the most important safety system. Being able to slow down or stop at a moments notice will help to avoid an incident or accident. Improperly working brakes will not do the job they are designed to do and will not be as effective when needed, especially in a panic stop situation.
If you feel symptoms like longer brake distances, vibration while braking, etc, it indicates that brakes need to be checked. Brake pads should be replaced when it wears off, brake fluid level also should be properly maintained. Also, check your power steering fluid level, drive belt for any signs of wear.

4.Coolant.
We know that a car's engine cooling system removes about a third of the engine’s waste heat by circulating coolant through the engine. Even in today’s fuel-efficient engines, only around a third of the heat produced during combustion is converted into mechanical energy that is used to drive the car. The rest is carried away by the exhaust and cooling systems.
Engine coolant plays a big role in how your car is running and should be monitored consistently. This is something that you should not ignore or delay at any cost. Low coolant level causes engine overheating which, in turn, damages many parts of the engine. To avoid this, the coolant level should be checked regularly. Make a habit of doing a quick visual check of the coolant level in the overflow bottle.

5.Filters.
A new air filter allows your vehicle's engine to get clean air, a key component in the combustion process. Likewise, a new AC filter will filter the dust in the air and makes your car's cabin dust-free. So, filters like Air filter, AC filter, etc should be cleaned or replaced depending upon its condition. Dust particles in Air filer reduced the flow of air into the engine thus reducing the performance of the engine. Also, dust in the AC filter reduced AC airflow, cooling and you are breathing unhealthy air in your car.
The lifespan of filters depends on driving conditions and climate. If you often drive on dirt roads, do a lot of stops and start driving or live in a dusty and dry climate, you might need to change your air filter more often. To keep track of when to change the air filter, many people rely on a visual inspection to help determine when to replace it.

6. Battery & Fuses.
We all know that a car's battery supplies electrical current for the starter motor to crank the engine, and it provides power to electrical accessories when the engine is off. Also, a car's battery acts as a voltage stabilizer for the entire electrical system. So, the battery and fuses of your car should be checked properly. Any fault on them may cause breakdown in the middle of your journey. Remember that never ignore blow battery sign. Battery’s output voltages and battery water level should be checked once in 3 months. If the cranking voltage is below 9V, it should be replaced immediately.
Although caring the car's batteries seems uncomplicated, they can be hazardous to service if you are not careful. Batteries and the corrosion that forms on their terminals contain sulfuric acid that will cause chemical burns and can damage most surfaces it contacts. So, while working with the batteries, you have to take extra care.

7.Lights.
Lights are very much important while driving in dark. Always make sure that all the lights in your car are working correctly. Replace immediately if you find a fused blub. Lights are not only for our visibility but also for others to see your car. Headlights will do the work. We must make sure that both the low and high beams are properly working.
Fog lights are also an important factor. The majority of drivers don’t know when to use these special lights. You can use the fog lights when the fog is dense, the headlights aren’t sufficient to ensure the appropriate visibility. Also when headlight’s light is reflected back to the driver’s eyes, the driver should turn off the headlights and turn on the fog lights. This will help in better visibility.
