Dell XPS 15 2018 - Everything You Need To Know | FMJ Tech

Dell XPS 15 | Everything You Need To Know.

Dell’s XPS line up has been one of the most discussed laptops every year. This is due to the fact that Dell always comes up with state of the art technology with extraordinary specs packed inside a thinnest possible well-built laptop at a comparable price tag. It is also most often be able to outperform some of the leading flagships in the market at the current time like MacBook pro while costing half the price.

Now that it is 2018 April Dell is all set to release their top of the line beast flagship Dell XPS 15. In may 2018 packed with many promising upgrades to make it a complete package for both Creators and Gamers. From a distance, the XPS 15 may not look like much of an upgrade. Inside, however, it’s a completely different beast. Key upgrades include Intel’s new 8th-gen CPU and the addition of a GTX 1050Ti graphics card option. Although 8th-gen doesn’t offer the most significant performance upgrade, the inclusion of a new H-series core i9 CPU option plus the upgraded 1050 Ti GPU could make the new XPS 15 an enticing option for creative and gamers. The i9 was unveiled by Intel alongside the new Dell laptop, and will reportedly offer a 41% gaming frame-rate increase and 59% faster 4K video-editing speeds against the top-specked 7th-gen Intel Core i7. The 1050 Ti is also a nice step up on the regular 1050 and can play most games at Full HD.

Dell XPS 15

The new Dell XPS 15 is all about bringing the power of Intel 8th-generation H series and Core i9 CPUs to a laptop as thin as the best Ultrabooks. In that regard, Dell absolutely delivers, enabling specifications with serious power available in a thin and light, 14-inch laptop frame. Naturally, that frame hosts a 15.6-inch Infinity Edge touch display with barely-there bezels, this and more going for a price that will make Apple pause. While we’re holding our judgment until a full review, things are looking great for Dell’s supersized XPS laptop of 2018.

By design, the XPS 15 looks simply like a blown-up version of the 2017 Dell XPS 13, ‘Chin Cam’ and all. Of course, that includes a brushed aluminum lid and base that surround a soft-touch carbon fiber keyboard deck. That keyboard deck feels as plush as usual and houses the same Dell keyboard you’ve come to love, so expect deep enough travel and strong feedback. The display, whether in 1080p or 4K, looks fantastically sharp and bright and is nearly bezel-less. Of course, this has driven the webcam into Dell’s now-classic ‘Chin Cam’ position which is not that rivals like Huawei Mate Book X Pro have done much better. All told, the XPS 15 accomplishes quite a lot for a laptop that’s just 0.66 inches (17mm) thick and weighs just 4 pounds (1.8kg).

Dell has now equipped the USB-C port with the fastest version of Thunderbolt 3 with a full four lanes of PCIe Gen 3. That’s an upgrade from the two lanes of PCIe found in the previous version. Other ports include two USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a full-size HDMI port, and an SD card reader. As with the previous versions, Dell has two display options for the newest XPS 15. There’s a Full HD (1920 x 1080 or 141 PPI) panel promising a 1,200:1 contrast ratio and 100 percent sRGB coverage, and a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 or 282 PPI) touch display with 500 nits of brightness, a 1,500:1 contrast ratio, and 100 percent sRGB coverage. Both options use Dell’s Infinity Edge technology for tiny bezels, contributing to the notebook’s impressively small dimensions. With all the specs above and possible hidden surprises from dell, it is sure that the competitors will have a hard time to match up.
